Well Status and Types

Well status is, for the most part, taken directly from the individual state regulatory agencies. Well status typically indicates what condition the well is in but may also contain information about what product it produces and what product it previously produced.  Each state has its own set of statuses.  Examples of statuses are Plugged Oil Well, Temporarily Abandoned, etc.

Well types are codes indicating what the well produces (Oil, Gas, Storage).  Drillinginfo.com uses a unified set of type codes and maps each state's data into those types.

Based on the well status and well type, Drillinginfo.com assigns a map symbol. You can look up all the symbols and how they are assigned to the well type and status codes for each state. See Look Up Symbols for more information.
