Map Tools

The Drillinginfo.com mapping system provides a variety of tools. The tools include:

Measure Distance:

This tool allows you to see the distance between two points in both miles and feet on a map. Simply click the Measure Distance link in the lower right hand side of the map. Click a location on the map for the first point then another for the second point. The distance will be shown in the status bar of the browser. See Measure Distance demo for more information.

Note: If you don't see the result in the status bar, make sure that the "IE View Status Bar" is set in your Internet Explorer options.

Find lat/long:

This tool allows you to see the latitude and longitude of any point on a map. Simply click the Find lat/long link in the bottom right side of the map. Move your cursor to any point on the map and click your mouse. You will see the latitude and longitude in the status bar of the browser. See Find lat/long demo for more information.

Note: If you don't see the result in the status bar, make sure that the "IE View Status Bar" is set in your Internet Explorer options.

TerraServer Image:

This tool allows you to retrieve an image of any point on a map. Simply click the TerraServer Image link in the lower right hand side of the map. Click a location on the map and you will be taken to the TerraServer web site (http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com) that contains the image of the point you chose. From there, you can zoom in and move in any direction on the image.

See TerraServer_Tips

Define Area:

This tool allows you to search an area that you define. You can create your area and re-use it throughout your session. To define an area, click the Define Area link and pick two points on the map. The map will be redrawn and the area will be outlined or shaded. You can clear the area with the Clear Area link. When you have an area defined, the starting page of the Search Wizard (when you pick the state, layers, etc.) will have a checkbox that allows you to include this defined area as an additional constraint on the search. See Define Area demo for more information.
